Hahaha. No promises, but I'll try?

I have a few reasons why I'm going back though.

Firstly, I missed my dad's birthday last month as I had to work in Singapore preparing for the Blog Awards. I actually got him a present earlier but I had no time to go back before that as well and thus only bringing him his belated birthday present this week. I hope he likes what I bought for him. :)

Next, I do miss my parents (a bit). It's been almost 3 months since I last see them, I think. So yea, it's time to drop by Ipoh to see them. However, I'm very sure the moment I see them, this reason will be nullified and I will wonder what can I do in Ipoh for the rest of 2 days. Lol.

Lastly, there's a distant relative wedding dinner to attend this weekend! Hurray!! I'm damn cheapskate and love wedding dinners. Especially the first 2 courses!! The appetizer usually rocks and sharkfin is no doubt the bomb!!! Muahahaha, attending wedding dinners of relatives are cost efficient, cause your parents pay for angpow instead of you!!! Yea! Yea! Yea!

Okay from these 3 reasons I bet you've deciphered me as someone who prioritized work from family, a not filial son and cheapskate, thick faced guy. I do admit I'm all three but I don't exactly see much wrong in it due to what I've faced in my life. So I beg for you not to judge anyone for what they do in the present as many of us may be touched or shattered to hear what they had gone through.

Two weeks ago, my Ex wrote me:

"I'm not responsible for your reputation. It speaks for itself. You have turned into a bitter bitchy queen. You used to be fun and charming. You have let this competitive edge rule your life and it has damaged your relationships."

I would be lying if I said it didn't profoundly affect me. There have been similar whispers about my attitude from other quarters. Chirps here and there. My stubborn male pride bristles at any suggestion that I'm a douche.

An inner voice seethes and hisses, "master... they are jealous (and squishy!)... don't heed their warnings!" Then there is my heart still heavily guarded and under house arrest. It's the only sane part of me. It pleads, "It's not too late to turn away from the Dark Side! There is still time to heal the hole in your soul!"

The Louisville Trip would provide a perfect test of... Can I get along well with others in a non-competitive environment? On the surface, it was a risky trip filled with potential for great disappointment. Most of the people I was meeting were strictly Facebook friends whom I had never met.

THE TRIP:
I checked into my hotel at the Museum 21 C. It is a posh downtown hotel worthy of a Queen. My room was large with a great view, king sized bed, and a nice bathroom. The turn down service every day was appreciated, because I never had to worry about running out of fresh towels. Everybody knows or should know that I take frequent showers.

On the first day, I met up with owned bud Chad. He has a wonderful sense of humor in both the Facebook world and real world. We ate at a Qdoba Mexican Grill in Bardstown and had good conversation. From there, Chad took me around to see the gorgeous Cherokee Park and Cave Hill Cemetary.

I was passed off to the friendly couple of Chris and Chris (not pictured) where they introduced me to the wonderful chrisandwich. It was quite delicious! We eventually reconnected with Chad and his Daddy Bill, where we ate at the Irish Rover and had drinks at the Q (home bar of the delightful Casey Leek and singing cartwheel legend J.Buttons).

On Friday, Casey and I dueled on the tennis courts. I was whipping his ass in each set, before he would stage amazing comebacks. We ended up splitting our sets 7-6,6-7 and called it a "tie" so neither one of us would pout on the drive back. See... I can sometimes put the greater good ahead of my own blood lust for winning!

It was on Saturday that I would meet SUPER NERD Brian again after a fateful Southern Decadence meeting with his partner Donald a few years ago. Brian has a penchant for embarrassing you with really witty illustrations on your Facebook page:

On Saturday night, I went to a fabulous party with Bill, Chad, and Brian where I met some very friendly Kentucky boys and a WOOFY West Virginian named Alex:

After socializing, drinking, and making mischief, we ended the night at Tryangles and The Connection where I lost track of how many people I slobbered over. Bill and Chad must think I am super slutty when drinking. LOL.

By Sunday, I was totally exhausted and flew back home to Louisiana. Thank you, Louisville for renewing my spirit and teaching me that happiness can exist outside of a tennis court. I look forward to seeing you guys soon... at IML in Chicago. :)

Scotland's largest protestant church has swept away centuries of tradition and voted to allow gay men and lesbians to become ministers, opening up the prospect of the church allowing civil partnerships for same-sex couples. The Church of Scotland imposed a temporary moratorium in 2009 on admitting gay and lesbian ministers after Scott Rennie became the first openly gay clergyman in a homosexual partnership to be officially appointed as a minister in the church. The church's general assembly, its law-making body, voted on Monday to lift that moratorium, officially officially allowing gay ministers to take on parishes for the first time since its formation 450 years ago.

The bill also effectively outlaws all local LGBT rights laws statewide as it bans any discrimination protections not already offered by the state. Surrey newspaper goes pink to celebrate gay award

The Surrey Comet turned its masthead pink last week to celebrate winning an award from a local gay and lesbian group.

The newspaper won a ‘Heart of Equality’ award from the charity Gay Surrey last Tuesday, which was the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO).

Assistant editor Julia Kennard told Holdthefrontpage.co.uk: “The Surrey Comet prides itself on being at the heart of the community.

“Our reporters are passionate about covering a diverse range of issues and we strive to ensure we are always fair and impartial.

“We are proud to have won a Gay Surrey Heart of Equality award and in celebration we have turned our current issue pink.

Church of Scotland ends moratorium on gay ministers

The Church of Scotland has voted to end an moratorium on ordaining gay ministers.

A temporary ban was instituted in 2009 after anger over the ordination of an openly gay man, the Rev Scott Rennie.

Today, the church’s general assembly in Edinburgh voted to lift the ban, the Guardian reports.

The general assembly has not yet decided whether to allow sexually-active gay clergy or demand celibacy from gay ministers.

Research has found that one in five church members have said they will leave if out gay ministers are permitted.

However, one in ten said they will leave if the ban continues.

This is the first time the church has explicitly agreed a policy on homosexuality, church officials said.

Rev Rennie’s appointment caused deep divisions between traditionalists and liberals.

The church was threatened by a schism two years ago when an openly gay man in a relationship was ordained.

The minister, who lives with his partner, was appointed as minister of Queen’s Cross Church, Aberdeen. His ordination was opposed by many in the church but his congregation voted overwhelmingly for him to become their minister.

Consultation on Liverpool’s gay village ends

The consultation on developing Liverpool’s gay village has ended.

Local councillors hope to turn the area into an international destination and plans include making a central square surrounded by restaurants and cafes.

As part of a £12,000 consultation, the area’s residents, businesses and visitors were asked how the area could be improved.

Director of Liverpool Pride Festival, James Davis, told BBC News: “It is about smartening the area up and about making sure that there are things available other than just clubs and bars.

“We have got a very large, warm and friendly gay scene here and we are underselling ourselves.

“Manchester, Brighton and even Birmingham are the destinations to go to but we’ve got fantastic hotels, shopping and bars and we’re not really telling anyone about it.

“The gay scene is not just for gay people. It is not about making it a ghetto, it is about making it a destination.”

Police said last month that there had been a “slight rise” in anti-gay attacks in the area after two drag queens were attacked in separate incidents.

Officers attributed the rise to better reporting of hate crimes but said they would continue to talk to the gay community.
Liverpool is to host its second Pride festival in August after last year’s event was hailed a resounding success.

US anti-gay campaigner: ‘We’re losing on gay marriage’

One of America’s most prominent anti-gay campaigners has conceded that the battle against gay marriage is being lost.

Jim Daly, the chief executive of Focus on the Family, told an evangelical magazine that the majority of those under 30 now support gay marriage.

Focus on the Family backs anti-gay marriage campaigns and lobbies politicians to support “traditional marriage”.

Daly told World magazine: “We’re losing on that one, especially among the 20- and 30-somethings: 65 to 70 percent of them favour same-sex marriage.

“I don’t know if that’s going to change with a little more age – demographers would say probably not. We’ve probably lost that. I don’t want to be extremist here, but I think we need to start calculating where we are in the culture.”

A number of recent major polls have suggested that most Americans now back same-sex marriage. Daly said he had discussed the issue with gay marriage campaigners.

He explained: “I sat down with one. He said, ‘You guys haven’t done so well with marriage. Why are you upset about us having a try?’ We’ve got to look at our own house, make sure that our marriages are healthy, that we’re being a good witness to the world. Then we can continue to work on defending marriage as best as we can. ”

Daly theorised that God was boosting the popularity of gay marriage and polygamy to spur Christians into action and encourage them to end ‘easy’ divorces.

He said: “We’ve got to look at what God is doing in all of this. . . . Have we done such a poor job with marriage, is He so upset with our mishandling of it in the Christian community, along with our lust of the flesh as a nation, that He is handing us over to this polygamy and same-sex situation in order to, perhaps, drive the Christian community, the remnant, into saying, ‘OK, there’s no no-fault divorce in our church’?”

In another surprising announcement, Daly criticised Republican candidates on their third marriages and praised President Obama for raising his children with his first wife.

Without naming names, he said: “Some of the conservative candidates that we put up – between a couple of them recently, I think they had seven or eight marriages. That seems a bit hypocritical.”

Responding to Daly’s comments, Freedom to Marry president Evan Wolfson told Advocate.com: “Focus on the Family finally got something right – the American people are rejecting their anti-gay toxic rhetoric and punitive politics, and are siding with loving and committed couples seeking the freedom to marry.”

Chicago Bulls star Joakim Noah fined $50,000 for anti-gay outburst

US basketball star Joakim Noah has been fined $50,000 (£30,968) for calling a rival fan a “faggot”.

The Chicago Bulls star, whose team lost to Miami Heat in the NBA play-offs on Sunday, was caught on camera saying “f**k you faggot” to the fan.

He apologised yesterday, saying he made the comment in the “heat of the moment” after the fan had said something insulting to him.

The NBA, announcing the fining decision, said it was “for using a derogatory and offensive term from the bench”.

Noah, who is the son of tennis champion Yannick Noah, was fined just half of the punishment Lakers star Kobe Bryant received for a similar outburst last month.

Gay rights group GLAAD called both incidents “troubling” but praised the NBA for its swift action.

A Scottish newspaper has named a footballer accused of being linked to a privacy injunction by users of social networking website Twitter.
The Sunday Herald is the first mainstream UK publication to do this.
Its front page has an image of a man whose eyes are covered with a black bar which features the word "censored".
It comes after Twitter users reacted to a footballer's bid to find out who is putting information about him on the website by posting new messages online.
The player, who an injunction says can only be identified as CTB, is involved in proceedings against former Miss Wales and ex-Big Brother star Imogen Thomas and the Sun newspaper.
'Unsustainable' In recent weeks there has been heightened scrutiny of gagging orders such as injunctions and so-called super-injunctions - court orders that prevent the media from revealing even the fact that an injunction has been granted.
In its editorial explaining the move, the Scottish Herald said it named the sportsman being linked to the injunction on Twitter because it was "unsustainable" for newspapers to be prevented from sharing information which is easily available on the internet.
It said: "We should point out immediately that we are not accusing the footballer concerned of any misdeed. Whether the allegations against him are true or not has no relevance to this debate.
"The issue is one of freedom of information and of a growing argument in favour of more restrictive privacy laws."
The paper also says the injunction "holds no legal force in Scotland, where a separate court order is needed".
As of 1430 BST on Sunday the Herald's website was not carrying the name of the footballer or the picture used on the front page of its printed newspaper.
'Out of control'
There has been widespread speculation on social media websites in recent days naming high profile individuals who have allegedly used the English courts to protect their identities.
On Sunday it emerged that the attorney general is being asked to consider prosecuting a journalist who allegedly broke a privacy order on Twitter.
The unnamed writer allegedly named a footballer, who is accused of having an affair, known in court papers as TSE.
The attorney general's office said it would "consider the matter carefully" but had not yet received the request.
On Friday, the findings of a year-long inquiry by a committee of judges and lawyers into the use of injunctions and so-called super-injunctions were revealed.
The committee's report said super-injunctions were now being granted for "short periods" and only where "secrecy is necessary".
Committee chairman Lord Neuberger, who is the most senior civil judge in England and Wales, said the internet "does add to difficulties of enforcement at the moment".
He said the internet had "by no means the same degree of intrusion into privacy as the story being emblazoned on the front pages of newspapers", which "people trust more".
However, he warned that modern technology was "totally out of control" and society should consider other ways to bring Twitter and other websites under control.

First Bush tried to gut Social Securityl now the current GOP-led House actually voted recently to gut Medicare. A long-overdue tax hike on the rich is off the table. Taxpayer subsidies for oil companies already awash in profits are sacrosanct. New abortion restrictions, killing Public Broadcasting and repealing the repeal of 'Don’t ask don’t tell' suddenly replace "Jobs Jobs Jobs" on their radar screen. The debt ceiling is a toy. Oh, and their Big Responsible GOP Spending Cut Bill increased spending by billions. Heckuva job!

And all their cuts will not just cause the national debt to rise but it will also cause millions of Americans to lose their employment...and Speaker Boehner says: "so be it". I would like to know what part of "TRICKLE DOWN ECONOMICS DOESN'T WORK, NEVER WILL" the Republicans don't understand.

Gay LAPD sergeant wins $1m in discrimination case

An openly gay Los Angeles Police Department sergeant has been awarded $1.16 million (£700,000) after winning his case for discrimination.

Ronald Crump, 39, has worked for the LAPD for 16 years. He told a court he was harassed after he claimed about a supervisor’s treatment of him because he is gay.

Sgt Crump said he was transferred to a lower position at work after complaining about his supervisor in the media relations department, Lt John Romero.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Lt Romero allegedly told him: “I was a religion major at Liberty University. Jerry Falwell would roll over in his grave if he knew I had hired you.”

Sgt Crump also claimed that Lt Romero called him “the new Ruby minus the heels”, in reference to his female predecessor.

He said that after complaining, he was transferred from the media relations department to the skid row department, which cost him valuable future opportunities.

Sgt Crump’s boss, Mary Grady, said she moved him because he did not get along with Lt Romero.

The LAPD is considering whether to challenge the decision, which is the second large judgment against the department in as many months.

Sgt Crump told the Los Angeles Times: “It was a serious dilemma for me to sue the agency that I admire and respect. But my commanding officer made poor decisions that, unchallenged, would have had a serious effect on me and other employees who are retaliated against.”

Gay MP says straight couples face discrimination over hymn Jerusalem

The hymn Jerusalem risks becoming “reserved for homosexual couples”, a gay MP has claimed.

Chris Bryant, the Labour MP for Rhondda, claimed that church policy means straight couples are increasingly being banned from using William Blake’s famous hymn at their weddings because clergy deem it is “not addressed to God”.

Straight couples who are marrying in civil services may not use Jerusalem because of its religious references, he said.

However, law changes to allow civil partnerships with a religious element mean that gay couples will be permitted to use the hymn, Mr Bryant claimed.

He told the Daily Mail: “I am fighting for the rights of straight couples.

“The government is now changing the rules to allow religious symbols at civil ceremonies for same sex couples.

“But in the interests of equality, the same should apply to heterosexual couples getting married in civil venues.

“It seems odd to say you can’t have Jerusalem for a straight wedding yet you can have it at the same place for a gay wedding.”

In the House of Commons yesterday, Mr Bryant asked Commons leader Sir George Young. “Can we just make sure that Jerusalem is not just reserved for homosexuals?”

Sir George replied: “I think that Jerusalem should be sung on every possible occasion.”

The patriotic hymn was included at the Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding last month.

Another US poll finds majority support for gay marriage

A Gallup poll has found that 53 per cent of US respondents support giving gay couples the right to marry.

This is the first time a Gallup poll has found a majority in favour of marriage equality.

Forty-five per cent of the 1,018 respondents said gay couples should not be allowed to wed, while two per cent said they did not know.

Last year, only 44 per cent of Gallup respondents said they agreed with gay couples marrying.

In the latest poll, Republican support remained unchanged on just 28 per cent. Conversely, Democrat support for the issue increased 13 per cent and independent support rose by ten per cent.

Seventy per cent of people aged 18 to 34 support gay marriage, although among those over 55 per cent, support dropped to 39 per cent.

Evan Wolfson, the president of gay rights group Freedom to Marry, commented: “This most recent poll reaffirms that Americans have been listening and, in Lincoln’s words, ‘thinking anew’ or, as President Obama would put it ‘evolving’.

“As they’ve heard the stories of loving and committed couples harmed by the denial of marriage and the safety net it brings, their hearts have opened and minds have changed.”

The Gallup result is in line with several other recent studies.

California firm agrees to drop gay websites ban in schools

A California web filter provider has become the first major company to drop a feature which allows schools to ban gay websites.

Lightspeed Systems says it is working to remove a filter which allows schools to block the non-adult educational or supportive LGBT websites.

It says that LGBT websites will now be listed under categories such as politics, history social science.

The change comes after a campaign by the American Civil Liberties Union which asks school districts to stop blocking access to the websites.

The organisation has written to school districts asking them to explain their policies and asked students to report whether their schools block the sites.

Lightspeed Systems previously categorised the sites under “education.lifestyles” but now says this category will be discontinued on Monday.

In an email, the company said: “The sites that are currently in the education.lifestyles category will now be placed in the broader society, society.politics, education.history or education.social science categories. These changes are intended to properly categorise the sites by their content, without regard to their political or moral viewpoint.”

“Lightspeed Systems should be commended for responding quickly and responsibly to fix a problem that we have seen in school districts across the county,” said Joshua Block, a staff attorney with the ACLU LGBT Project.

“Websites should not be singled out for special treatment by public schools simply because they contain LGBT content. Educational websites addressing LGBT history should be treated similarly to other history websites, and websites urging support for the rights of LGBT people should be treated similarly to other political websites. Lightspeed’s new categories will ensure that all public school students have viewpoint-neutral access to important online resources.”

Blocked sites include the Gay Straight Alliance Network; the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network and the official website for the annual Day of Silence to protest anti-LGBT bullying.

The ACLU is continuing to pressure other web filter providers to drop their blocked categories on LGBT issues.

Tennessee Senate approves ‘don’t say gay’ bill

Tennessee’s Senate has passed a bill that proposes to introduce a ban of discussing homosexuality within schools.

The bill, approved by 5 votes to 4 at the Senate will ban all teachers in public elementary and middle schools from talking about the subject.

The legislation, known as the ‘don’t say gay bill’, has been compared to the UK’s hated Section 28 law, which was repealed in 2003.

Senator Roy Herron of Dresden said: “I am concerned that, with the bill as amended now, that we may inadvertently prevent the teaching of ethics or morality, and that we may inadvertently preclude the teaching of abstinence.”

Mr Campfield claims his bill is neutral and is not anti-gay.

In an interview with CNN, he said: “My bill is neutral. It doesn’t say anybody can speak for it or against it. So, I’m sure people wouldn’t want someone coming out and saying, you know, there are some people who say, you know, we should be preaching against it and saying it’s evil, dirty and wrong, or some people say hey, it’s great, wonderful thing.”

“I don’t think that’s appropriate,” he added. “Like I said, I think we need to let the families decide that.”

Mr Campfield has been pushing for the law for years.

According to On Top magazine, he compared homosexuality to bestiality during an interview in 2009.

Speaking to Sirius XM’s Michelangelo Signorile, he said: “If I want to talk about the bestiality movement, do you think we should be teaching that?”

Mr Campfield also claimed that homosexuality was a “learned behaviour”.
The Tennessee Equality Project said the bill could lead to more gay teen suicides.

“We believe it’s a ploy to advance a social agenda into the classroom,” chairman Jonathan Cole told FoxNews.com.

“And we think it will create an unsafe environment for kids who may be gay, lesbian, transgender or just have questions.”

He added that it would prevent anti-bullying initiatives and ban counsellors from speaking to children who are worried about their sexuality.

“So if they witness a kid being bullied because of sexual orientation, how will they be able to deal with that?” he said.

Similar legislation was introduced in the UK in 1988.

Today I picked up the new magazine Mode by Shortlist.com. It's a freebie, but packed with some stylish photography. Interestingly it has an article on "The Tennis Short Returns".

"To find true elegance, as is the case with most things, we must go back in time. Style-wise, the golden years of tennis were the Seventies, and the influence of this decadent decade is back with a vengeance- think Bjorn Borg, John McEnroe and Jimmy Connors. These were spit and swadust dudes. They had torsos like He-Man and yet they donned the shorts of Christopher Robin. An oxymoronic vision granted, yet it looked so, so right."

However this magazine also presents a fashion shoot called Desert Storm which shows a few young men in....very stylish short shorts, albeit ridiculously priced. However that is the point because where the rich go today, the rest of us follow tomorrow. This spread indicates a sea change in attitude towards the stylish look of guys in well fitted short shorts.

I hope this summer to see some fit lads donning them.
